Broken PS/2 port?

*system isn't the one in sig

I was typing in Word and using IE when the mouse just stopped moving. I used the keyboard to check the mouse in the mouse settings of the control panel, and under properties it said something like mouse not working properly, please reconnect it or w/e.

My first thought was my memorex optical mouse died. I've tried 3 PS/2 mice and none of them work on this machine. They all work on any other machine.

So I got a USB mouse. That did it. I just don't have any spare USB mice so I have to go out and buy a cheap optical one now.

The only thing I can think of is something went wrong with the port.

But I just don't get it. A PS/2 port failing? I've never heard of an ATX PS/2 port breaking, have any of you?

I guess that's the best way, thanks.

Tried Knoppix, mouse still defunctish, so it isn't WXP...

Weird that a PS/2 port would die.... PS/2 keyboard still works.
