Oh boy another great thing to ruin my week. Ok my phone's LCD leaked. The phone works, but it's scratched up and the screen is broken. By the way it's an LG VX-1 if that helps at all. Basically my questions are:

1. is there any way to get this fixed for a reasonable price? like under 50 bones to replace the screen?
2. i don't have insurance on the phone. any chance in hell verizon gives me a free phone if i ask nicely?
3. any other advice?

i have 1.5 years left on my contract (lol) so I dunno what to do. sheeit.

help me?

1. No.
2. No.
3. Don't get insurance. It's a waste of money IMO unless you lose/break your phone often. You're paying at least like $75 yearly for insurance and then whatever the deductible is. Buy another phone... possibly the Motorola T720 (i think thats the model number). Not great but it's pretty damn cheap for the options...

Lets see I paid 300 dollars for my phone. My insurance is 4 dollars a month and my deductible is 35. Even If I paid my insurance for 3 years the total would be less than 150 dollars and then add the deductible. It is still cheaper for me to have insurance than to dole out 199(which is the price of the phone now) or buy used from e-bay . I have never broken a phone but I have lost one. Thankfully the guy who found it called the number listed as home and no calls other than that were made. I gave him 25 bucks and said thank you very much.

BTW GET INSURANCE!

Well sorry rich guy, but most people don't own $300 phones. ;)

And Frontline Warrior, yes its free to change the service to another phone. Verizon customer service is pretty good from my experiences... talk to them, maybe they can cut you a deal or something.

After 2-3 yrs, the phone is just a piece of junk.

Yup, and they wouldn't sell insurance unless they made money off of it.

Cell phone insurance has to be the worst deal in the world. It's expensive, plus there's a deductible. If I ever break or lose my phone, I'll just buy a cheap phone to use until my contract is up. That would be cheaper than paying for insurance.

Why waste money every month on insurance for something you don't need insurance for? Buy insurance to protect you against things you can't afford to cover out of your own pocket (car insurance, homeowners, life), not for things you could afford to handle on your own like breaking or losing a cell phone.

I still will say that insurance makes sense unless you use a phone under 200 bucks.

If that's true, then an expensive cell phone really costs $150 more than you pay for it. First, there's the purchase price, then add on another $150 for three years of insurance. If I broke or lost a $200 cell phone after a year, couldn't I find a replacement for it out of my own pocket for under $150?

You are argueing with people that buy extended warranties they never use. You would have better luck convincing your dog that it's a rabbit.

My phone's almost 4 years old and it's still working perfectly. Never dropped a call, hardly any scratches on it, battery life hasn't changed. I've never understood why people replace things that aren't broken. My phone cost me $25 because it was a display model, it was the last Motorola they had at the time and they (Alltel) were replacing it with an Audiovox or something as their promotional phone. I wasn't going to accept anything other than a Motorola though. $25 over four years, the phone has cost me $6.25 a year and the cost per year is still dropping.

The most important thing is to buy a phone from a reputed manufacturer like Motorola and to take care of it.

Oh really? Don't be an ass Rahvin. You don't know my buying habits nor what I have insurance or warranties on. The only extended warranty I have bought has been automotive related or my WEGA a year ago. Don't assume that because I think it is entirely logical to have insurance on an easily broken, lost, or stolen item that I am one of those that buys a 15 dollar extended warranty at Best Buy on a CAT5 cable. Please.

Sure if you think it won't be lost, stolen, or broken in that time period. I spent money not only on my phone but on accessories as well(i.e. car charger, usb cable for internet connection, and extended battery). You need to add in the loss of those items as well because without the phone they are essentially useless. The extended battery was 25 dollars and I also received a free one from Samsung after a mail in. Then add in the cost of the USB/Internet cable that was 29.99 and shipping plus my car charger that was 15.99.

Then I will point you in the direction of Froogle. Sure there are lots of deals for people who are switching to another provider or starting new service. If you are in a contract like me and you have a good bit of time remaining on said contract you do not want to have to buy a new phone because you pay retail unless you go on ebay or haggle with your provider for a phone credit.

Price of Phone 299.99+8% tax
Price of Battery 24.99+8% tax
Price of Internet CBL 29.99 plus 7 dollars shipping
Free extended battery in addition

Now lets see what makes more sense if you are in a contract?

Froogle link that shows a price of 268 for my phone.

299.99 from Amazon unless you are new service activation

Ebay link for auction that has yet to end and price is 289.99

Ebay auction for 249.99 with just a short time remaining.

Only a500 that has been for sale recently in AT FS/FT. Price is 299.99.

Hot deals price of 218 at CC for a limited time a little bit back.

There one other store that had the A500 belew retail and that was COSTCO. I do not live anywhere near a COSTCO so do you see where I am going with this? For me insurance makes PERFECT sense and for someone who has broken their phone it makes sense(which I have not done but our thread originator has).

Get it?

Just go to eBay and buy an older model verizon phone. I currently only a Motorola V120c, which I got brand new as a model a year or so ago. They are now like $30 on eBay. It's a good phone with voice dialing, and many other nice standard features to have.
