Broken Monitor?

My roomies LCD monitor lately has been having some problems. The screen shuts off at random, screen acts like the computer has been turned off yet he can still hear music and all signs show that the computer is still running fine. He hasn't changed anything since he has set up his system in the dorm room here. When computer restarts, the monitor light acts as it normally would when the computer is started, but the screen just changes to different shades of black before shutting down after 30 seconds or so.

Any help would be great.

Try turning off any power management stuff in Control Panel. Specifically Screen Saver and the Monitor Power Options.

ok I will tell him to try that out.

Any other suggestions incase that doesn't work?

There may be monitor specific controls on the monitor itself. What brand/model of monitor is it?

Have you tried plugging the monitor into a different computer? Perhaps it is he video card, maybe you could test it out with a different one?

yeah he tried it on mine and it worked fine. Plus now it is back working again, but for who knows how long
