Broken, messed up SATA raptor

I was installing some drivers for my new computer, when all of the sudden the computer decided to randomly shut off and reboot. The hard drive made a really loud GRKKK noise, and ever since then, it's made annoying little chkk chkkkk noises like a coffee machine perkolating or something. I don't know if any physical damage has been casused, or what I should do to check. Any ideas?

Back up your data now!

Go to WD's website and download their diagnostic utility to check your drive.

Even if it passes, you may want to contact WD and inquire about warranty/RMA info since a clicking hard drive is usually one that's on its last leg.

Ok. Thanks for the reply. It actually seems like the weird, hollow sound has gone away on its own. The drive is now as quiet as usual. However, I'm still having another irritating problem with my computer, and I was wondering if you could help me out with it...it's in the asus k8ne deluxe thread on motherboards, last post...I'm having trouble with the onboard audio making clicking noises, and also the lady won't talk during bootup now that I've installed my motherboard and the ac 97 realtek audio drivers.

Sorry, I've never had any experience with that board. The only thing I can suggest is to first check and see if you're using the most recent motherboard and audio drivers. The bootup sound skipping isn't uncommon since Windows is trying to start various applications and services. I don't have Doom3 so I don't have a clue about audio problems with the game, but maybe go into the audio options and see if there's a setting you can change that might help the problem.
