My nVidia RAID controller on my MSI board died a few weeks ago and i finally got it back from MSI (worst customer service EVER!). Before the RMA the controller saw two physical discs. Am i going to be able to just put the machine back together and let the RAID controller do its thing, or will i have to do the format-hoops-jump routine? POST is fine until it tries to load win. My machine is/was running RAID0 with an extra backup disc. Last backup was a few weeks before the MSI took a crap.

You can try fidding with it for a while. If it doesnt regognice it after several configurations, youre probably looking at a hard save.

RAID0 drives should not have important information on them. They should have your OS and applications on them. Your backup disk should be defualt for storeing your important data as raid isnt going to ever open that document faster becuase the document is on the raid (talking word here). Photoshop and video editing, sure, _when youre editing_ otherwise the most recent (or fav copies of) data should be on the large"slow" drive as should the VM (to manys suprise).

I think i took the necessary precautions. My 3rd HD (250GB) has everything that was/is on the RAID0. Its just that i never schelduled backups so im not sure what was backed up a week or two before the controller took a crap. If its the same controller shouldnt it see and config the array fine? POST dies when it tries to load windows.

BTW, i also know that there are a lot of RAID0 haters here. ;)
