hey, i no longer have this laptop but would like to no what u guys think... this laptop randomly stopped displaying ( all i can see are vertical colored lines) i can still get it to boot into windows and use it if i use an external monitor so i have narrowed the problem down to a couple possibilities

1) broken dac on primary display
2) wire?
3) physical monitor problem
4) mobo issues

any1 no how i could fix it and what the most likey prob is??

thx

well you rule out number 4 when you use the external one. Could be a wire busted or melted could be the screen went bad. hard 2 say. But y worry if you don't have it ne more.

well by #4 i meant an one way circuitry issue

and i checked the wires, it wasn't fried or burned but i dont think those are the only signs of a bad wire

as for me worring about it, it does seem to be a common thing that i've seen and i would like to be able to fix if next time if it's just something stupid like a config issue or a wire...

oh btw, what is the expected life of a samsung 14.1" lcd??

I would say depends on use and care of the laptop it self.. But it is hard to say there could just be a defect on it which would kill it in weeks or could be years out.

The expected life of a Samsung LCD is 2.5 years, longer if it's treated well.
Chances are, if you can't even see the faint outlines of the stuff on your screen, it means that the LCD is dead. If you could still see the faint outlines, it means that the power inverter board is fried. Chances are, your LCD is toast, but your motherboard is fine if you still get VGA out.
I have a 14.1" Samsung LCD for sale; it was used in a Dell Latitude 600m. PM if interested.

thx cheesehead and shellguy, um.. i found another broken lappy with a 14.1" monitor, does it host the same interface? can i just swap the monitors?
