The mechanism under the 'm' key on my laptop had one of the micropscopic tabs busted when my one year old got a hold of it and ripped it out. Does anyone know how I can get a replacement for the white crossing mechanism? Seen here: http://www.wikihow.com/Pop-a-K...a-Dell-Laptop-Keyboard

I called Dell and they dont sell that individual piece.. they just sell the whole keyboard for $50... I dont need a whole new keyboard or the actual 'm' key... just the tiny plastic mechanism underneath.

Any thoughts, links, suggestions?

thanks,

Plaid

Hmmm...interesting business deal. You buy entire Dell keyboards and then re-sell the keys for $7 apiece.

Maybe you should buy the whole Dell keyboard and then put the rest of the keys up for auction? :p

The ebay sellers may not even need to buy new keyboards to sell just the keys. Defective keyboards, can yield a good number of salvageable parts and are a lot less costly than a new keyboard.

Past experience showed to me that it does not worth while to fix any thing on a laptop keyboard.

You save $20 in exchange of misery when you use the Laptop, those "Fixed Keys" never work well.

In that case, the OP could buy the whole keyboard for his laptop model with buy it now for $13.00 (free P & P). Over 6 days left until the end of the auction.

If it is a new Keyboard it is a very good deal.

I would not install a used laptop keyboard for free.

lol - While I don't have a Dell keyboard, I tend to wear out the "W", "A", "S" and "D" keys on my keyboards. Especially the "S" key - I tend to be in retreat a lot! Maybe I could just buy another "S" key next time my keyboard wears out :)

Just to conclude this thread. There was an ebay seller who specializes in key replacements... he was very detailed and accurate as to what I needed. He shipped out the M key, the white plastic mechanism, and the rubber boot thing. Even though I only needed the plastic mechanism. I think the cost was $4.99 + shipping. It has been on for several months now and works great...

Lesson learned... dont let your one year old within reaching distance of the laptop keyboard.
