Broken iPod Nano Screen?

I pulled my iPod Nano out of my pocket to find that my Nano's screen is cracked!

I didn't do anything I don't normally do, but it is CRACKED and it is about $100 for a new LCD on eBay.

Would apple replace it because of this?

last i heard they called this abuse and neglect and voided the warranty. not sure if they still do that..

Sounds kinda sketchy- it's covered under the warranty, but not if you broke it. Sounds a bit like you sat on it or something. Definitely don't tell them you pulled it out of your pocket to find it that way.
