Broken Ipod experiences?

Yeah, yeah...wrong forum and all that jazz😛 I just need some quick answers because my nephew's Ipod just went south on him🙁

How well do the Apple stores handle these things. Will they fix it? Replace it? I cannot locate the original receipt, but I did pay with a CC, so I know I can dig that up. Its less than a year old (bought at Christmas). It has started clicking and no longer plays songs for more than 30 seconds or so. I am almost sure it is the drive.

I will be heading to the nearest Apple store this week, but in the meantime I was curious. Anybody have a story about their defective Ipod and/or Apple's customer service?

Thanks guys🙂

PS...Sorry Nik😉

... if can't see visual damages... maybe you can get your way out of it
btw you don't need anything for the apple store... just your ipod(they will look up serial)

Oh yeah, the other issue is that he never registered it, so I dont know if the serial number is validated🙁

Mine broke once. It wouldn't turn on anymore, and I was still covered by the 1 year service plan, so they just gave me a new one.

oh... I don't think that matters, I think it automatically registers if you connect to the internet.
you can check the serial at apple.com/support...(lower right side)

Here's one experience.

Although there is a one-year warranty, after six months, the customer has to pay for shipping.

Apple will arrange for a pre-labelled box to be sent to you, you pack the ipod and DHL picks it up.

1. Go to apples website and the go to Ipod tab. There is a section where you can type in your S/N on the back of the Ipod and it will bring up how many days of warranty is left. (not sure if it will work if you never registered your Ipod...but it might still work nonetheless).

2. If it's less than 1 year but MORE than 6 months and the Ipod needs replacing, apple will charge you a $29.95 "disposal fee" (more like BS fee in my opinion). It's a stupid ass policy that apple has to mooch more money off you.

3. You can buy an Apple care thingy (basically another year of warranty) for $59.95 and this will replace the $29.95 fee. So basically for $30 more, you can get another full year of warranty.

Just go here: http://depot.info.apple.com/ipod/

The headphones that came with my Shuffle started to have some annoying static sounds. So I just filled out the forms, and I had a new one shipped to me overnight! I didn't have to return the old headphones, they just asked me to discard them. They will probably ask you to return the ipod, though...
