99 civic ex coupe. it was stolen and now sitting in at the impound lot.

they broken/ took apart the steering colum. everything looks intact, just took radio and wheels

how can i get this started and drive it home? with everything all broken and apart, shouldnt i be able to take pliers and twist the knob thing on the part of the switch that should go into the lock cylinder and start it.?

really trying not to pay for another tow truck.

Yeah, you should be able to start it with a flat head screwdriver. As long as the ignition switch is functioning.
after the key cylinder there is a probably a switch like this.

Just insert something that will turn the switch.

the whole center console was CUT up in terms of wires. think anything running there can prevent the car from starting.

also, if i was to start it, how the hell would i turn it off? switch it off with said screwdriver?

As long as they did something to disable the steering wheel lock, which I'd assume they did, since they drove it around(right?). I doubt anything in the center console is going to affect drive-ability. You concerns should be: steering wheel lock, working lights, and of course the ignition switch working. Yeah screwdriver should be fine to turn it off as well.

stole the wheels and gave it 4 different wheels. one is a 5 lug wheel on a 4 lug car!!!!

the city makes it very hard. he is the owner of the car. he must go there to get the paperwork. then only one person is allowed in the lot. he is pretty busy with work. I can't do much for him because I got evening classes.

its an ex model that looks like an si. so they took it expecting b16 vtec engine. looks like small time crooks.
we don't have it back actually. it still at the lot being charged like $35 per day. because of time issues. in the end looks like $500 to get it home because it was stolen.

If it's going to cost $500 just to get the car home, I'd call it a total loss, minimum you're going to have to put another couple hundred into it for wheels and tires, plus sorting out the wiring that was damaged and the ignition switch. What's a once stolen '99 civic worth these days? It's probably worth more in parts than it would be to repair it, I'd leave it at the impound lot, try to work a deal with the lot where they pay you the scrap value or have a wrecker/salvage lot pay the impound fees and give you cash for the scrap value.

kinda where I'm thinking as well.

tow fee was $150. plus first 5 days is $15 each.$35 per day after.

that alone we are nearing $350. least $100 to tow it back home. trim prices for the climate control, radio, steering column. 4 wheels and tires. repair the harness, new ign switch and harness on ebay shows about $70.

I think a clean 99 civic should run maybe $2000-3500. stolen one, $1500?

I got 3100 easy for my 1997 civic with 180xxx miles. Rust on rear panel all the way through. A/C not working, needed new compressor.

You'll be able to get 1500 most likely.
