I was working on an old p3 system and managed to snap off the CMOS battery retaining clip. Now it just falls out if the box is vertical. How do I fix it? I tried a paper clip but that's not working so well. Can I use electrical tape and just tape it to the motherboard?

d'oh...I took a look at it...the top clip is the + connector, so it HAS to be metal or it's pointless. Looks like I'm up for a soldering job this weekend :)

anyone know how long CMOS batteries last? I'm going to epoxy the battery in place and then solder the clip on.

A couple of years. I was going to suggest to just glue the battery in place, and when it's time for the battery to be changed, you can just use a flathead screwdriver or a knife and pry it out... i've done it in the past just fine. Just don't go crazy with the glue.

The battery is also positive on the sides, which is probably still making a connection.
