Broken Antenna on Wireless Router

I shipped a wireless router to my brother in its retail box. All packed properly. It reached him and he found out the antenna on the router is broken. Will the router still work without the antenna? Can I claim insurance from the post office then? Does he need to ship it back to me? Is there a way to remedy this?

Thanks!

Some routers have removable antennas. Twist the base to see if it comes off. If it doesn't budge then it's most likely a fixed antenna. Even fixed ones can still be replaced but some skill is required. If you insured the package, insurance may pay for the damage, but it's often difficult if the box isn't banged up. You'll have much greater luck if it was insured for $50 or under with the green form. Recipient can just take the entire unit (box too) to the post office to file a claim.
