Broke (partially) my LCD? Perm smudge marks .. anything I can do ?

In the process of transporting my NEC LCD 1860 NX home from college it somehow managed to receive 2 smudge marks to the screen .. I had it wrapped in a comforter but who knows .. it happened .. perhaps my father put his fingers there while holding, who knows .. bottom line is .. is there anything I can do about it .. It's really not too bad .. just to small smudges where it's a bit darker than the rest. I've basically understood that damange to LCDs is basically impossible to fix, is this true? Looks like I might have to pawn this one off to my mom and get a new one 😛
 
I found a Very soft cotton cloth,(Old t-shirt), and water gently going over the screen in a circular motion does the trick. Off of course.
