broke my sony headphones

I thought I would be worth a try posting this here. Anyways here?s my problem I have some Sony MDR-CD280 headphones and I managed one night right before going to bed to trip on the cord thus somehow pulling it lose from the stereo mini plug that?s on the end. Not having the money to for a new set of headphones right now I though I could just get a new 1/8" stereo mini plug from Radio Shack and solder it onto the cord. I went there yesterday and purchase the needed part came home and cut the end of the cord exposing the three wires inside the headphones single cable. The problem I have is I don?t know which conductor wire goes to which terminal on the new mini plug. The colors of the wires are green, red, and gold. I dont suppose anyone has any ideas on where the wires are suposed to go?

seems to use the same colour code, hope it helps.

Gold= Ground
Green=left channel (ring conector)
Red=right channel (tip conector)
