Broke my laser printer by banging on the floor repeatedly...

I own a cheap mono laser printer (HP 1010) as I'm a law student and need to print off reems of text. Anyway, a while ago it ran out of toner so I used a refill kit to fill it up which worked great until I moved house, during which for whatever reason all the toner came out of the cartidge (I think the printer must have been turned upside down or something).

So i decided to clean up the printer and buy a new cartidge. I tried to clean as much of the powder up but it just kept coming out even after I'd removed the cartridge. So I decided to shake it, then to budge the last bit out I banged the printer on the floor. Not too violently, but I did use some force, but not what you would expect to break the printer.

Anyway it now doesn't work with a new cartidge installed. Anyone got any idea what may have broken or how to fix it or whether its worth taking it to a computer shop?

Sorry I was a bit vague! No it doesn't turn on at all. None of the lights will come on. I'm thinking its a gonner also but thought I'd try here.

It's worth pointing out that before this experience the printer had been in a box for a good few months during which time it wasn't used, so it may have stopped working BEFORE I banged it on the floor. The last time I saw it working was in July, at which point it went in the box and the above happened.
 
It is prolyy now a doorstop. Cost of repair will most likely exceed its value - replace it.
 
Actually, you could probably seel it for parts on E-Bay and get something.
 
Thanks for posting this...let's me know I'm not the only guy who hits his printer and broke it. Out of frustration, I gave my printer a few good punches topside... Well let's just say I sure shut it up 😛
 
I think you can reverse the damage by repeatedly banging it on the ceiling. In order to do this properly, you must bang the top side of the printer against the ceiling. This is the only way to fully reverse the damage.

This is a little known trick that I probably shouldn't share with you but you seem like a nice person.

I fix printer for a living and if you shipped it without taking the toner out, and you were using a refill the printer is toast. To fix it you would have to have someone with a toner vac ($100) (using compressed air can short or a towel can short these out) to clean it out then probably replace the low voltage power supply since it is not powering on and you might have fried out either the dc controller or the formatter. If I remember correctly you can get this printer for about $200 so it is easier to replace
