Broke my iPhone last night!!

I am sooo pissed. I had the 8gb 2g iphone.

Walking into my house from the gym last night I was carrying a lot of things. I had my phone under my arm pressed to my body while i tried to unlock the door to my house. It slipped and fell. I have a case on it but it landed hard. The screen cracked and the area around the crack no longer responds to touch.

What should I do:

1. Buy a used 2g iPhone off ebay, get it activated?
2. Buy a new 3g from AT&T (my 2 years is about to end so i am able to get the upgrade price)
3. Buy a refurbished 3g from AT&T, only comes with a 90 day warranty.

Question: If I buy the phone from an apple store is the warranty better? I though I heard something to this effect.

Thanks guys.

Personally I would save my 2-yr discount to use on the new iPhone slated to come out in late June/early July, so I'd buy something else (or a used iPhone if you want). Of course we have zero information about it, so that may be a tough choice.

If you don't want to wait for that, I'd go with a 2G unless you're OK with the additional $10-15/month for service for the 3G. FAN discounts apply for the 3G service, which may muddy the waters.

What about "repair your iPhone's screen"? This should run about $100-150. It's $175 to have it repaired by Apple. But 3rd parties are cheaper - look on Google. Even if you don't repair it, make sure you Ebay the broken phone. You'd be surprised what an iPhone with a broken screen sells for.

What is a FAN discount, Pork?

Yeah I just ran over to AT&T I got the new 16gb 3g iphone. I am gonna hawk the broken one on ebay. They are selling for like 150 broken, crazy.

Try checking with the Apple Store. Go in and see what they'll do. It doesn't matter where you bought the iPhone.

Yeah but I broke it. For sure it does not look like a manufacturer defect. Also the phone was like a year and 4 months old.

You think they might replace it for free?

FAN stands for foundation account number, it is the corporate discount you can get depending on what company you work for. Mine Is good for 20% off my bill but it doesn't apply to the iphone 2g service. If I got a 3g the service actually works out $.50 cheaper per month with the FAN applied.

They might. They used to replace some iPhones that had cracked screens. Just go to the Apple Store and try. It's not like they're going to take it away.

meh, it would feel too unethical to me. I have had the phone for a good amount of time and broke it my self. I all ready made an eBay ad for the broken one. Some broken phones have gotten up to $100+.

I'm the guy who washed his Eternity in the washing machine last week and put a post about what to do. Well I called AT&T about what happened. They sold me a new Eternity for $125, which is about $275 cheaper than a new one. All they did was cancel my old contract with them (as I had started the new phone/new contract back at the end of November last year). Got it yesterday and, aside from having to put my phone book entries in manually, I couldn't ask for a better deal.

So I say call AT&T. Tell them what happened. Chances are they'll sell you a new Iphone cheaper than what you can get on eBay.

Wow I feel lucky now...I've dropped my iPhone countless times onto concrete with only an invisible shield covering it and the phone itself is still like-new under the invisible shield skin.

Btw, where did you find the $150 iPhones on eBay? All the non-broken ones I've seen are going for $250-300...

They may have been broken for $150 I just did a quick price check before I made the post, did pay that much attention to the eBay posts.

Contact ATT sounds like the best option. Its not like you can be out of a phone for 4 months till the new one comes out. Buy a case next time!

It was in a case. I just had really bad luck w/ the way it landed.

Yes, it's right - neither the 1st gen or the newer 3G iPhone can shoot video nor send picture messages (MMS). You can hack it to do both though.

You shouldn't have to, though. These are basic features that any $20 on-contract phone can do, out of the box.

Don't get me wrong though, the iPhone has the absolute best touch screen and browser on the market today. I am starting to miss having a real smartphone though.
