I just signed up for sprint with the intent of reactivating my $30 SERO plan. The sales rep said it's all good and sold me instinct. Well as it turns out, they won't let you add SERO anymore so sprint forced me to get a 59.99 400 minute plan.

Efff dat.

Picked up an iphone 3g with 20% plan discount through my employer. I'm liking it so far, except for the plastic back plate. My old iphone's metal door were a lot better. Anyone got any killer apps?
 
Facebook is one of my favs. There's also a free Sudoku game. And it's not an app, but I really like using Google Reader via Safari (you can even set google reader to format external links for mobile browsers).

why get instinct when HTC touch diamond will come out in a few weeks? i'm glad it came out in hk and europe first so they can iron out all the bugs.
 
How did you get out of your contract with out the early termination fee? Or did you just pay it?

What's the point of having broadband connectivity when you have no software to use it? Iphone is better because it's got a regular browser on it, so you can actually use the internet.

I've had sprint tv on my treo since 2006... it's a pay-for service and useless on all fronts. Plus you can email pics even from iphone 2g.

Full brower + contacts/calendar + real mp3 player + maps with yellow pages + bloomberg real time stock data + pandora + ....

Instrinct is just a regular commodity cellphone (not a smartphone) with a touchscreen display. The only edge over iphone is the vibrating touch screen thingy.

30 days trial period. I got out of tmobile before that because they raised the sms rates.

Reason being everyone says the instinct sucks. I guess it just looks better on paper

SwirlyMMS is a complete MMS replacement app for the iPhone - BUT it's not released on the new 2.0 firmware yet. But it worked great on the previous firmware. It is $8.

As far as the Instinct vs. iPhone - for what it's worth, I flew in from San Francisco two days ago and sat next to a doctor who bought and returned his Instinct. He got a Treo instead. His opinion pretty much matched Halik's - which is that it's basically a phone with a touchscreen. He seemed pretty impressed with the iPhone - especially how crisp the movies looked.

Still, my advice would be to go to the Sprint store and play with an Instinct a bit, and then try an iPhone and spend some time trying things that are important to you on both of them.

Sorry but having played with the Instinct and given it serious consideration, it's sadly not as good as the iPhone IMO. Its nice, don't get me wrong, but I enjoy the iPhone considerably more.
 
I like my HTC Touch with SERO - it's not better than the iPhone, but it costs me a lot less money ($99 upfront + $30/mo) and it does a lot of neat stuff. It's too bad my 30 days are up before the Touch Diamond comes out though 🙁

The two and only two phones that I mentioned were the Iphone and the Instinct which I believe to be more toys that any typical smart phone. Can the Iphone connect to Outlook Exchange?

While I don't consider the iPhone to up to Blackberry status as a enterprise smartphone, it is rapidly moving in that direction. With the 2.0 firmware - which supports Outlook Exchange, data purging, has hooks for encryption, and supports 802.1x certificates, has support for reading office apps in email - the iPhone has definitely moved a step up from a toy.

My corporation - which has >100,000 employees - has started trials of the iPhone running firmware 2.0 as a business-class smartphone alternative to a Blackberry.

Gartner Research reported in the last day or so that they have certified it as enterprise ready as well - although they have a bunch of caveats.

The Gartner report is interesting - the iPhone barely makes their cut. There's a number of issues remaining. The biggest issue that I have with it is the lack of encryption. I'd like to encrypt the email data with strong encryption and strong password and there's no support for this.
