My Abit IC-7 (i875) chipset heatsink broke its mounts and fell off. I can't fix my computer right now, because Im at college, I have been using it at 100/66 mhz with my P4 2.6C. I touched the bare chipset after an hour and it was barely warm. I left it like that for a day or two....and couldnt take it anymore. I moved it to 100/100 and it wasnt any warmer. I kept it there for a while and then said "screw it", and put it on 166/166....

It eventualy got "hot" at 166/166, Im really angry and just want to run 200/200 again. I wont play any games, would this be ok for the chipset?

You should be able to glue it on with a thermal compound. Arctic ceramique acts like glue when it dries. It might hold your heatsink in place if you don't move your case much. Or you can order a replacement from a cooling specialty site such as nexfan.com.

Arctic ceramique works pretty good (unless your are a regulat LAN party player) when it comes to holding just a chipset HS. Did that myself and never had a problem with it at all!

yea, I know how to fix it.....that was not really my question though.
But thanks, I'll look for Arctic ceramique when I can.

use the arctic silver epoxy I had to do that when my BH7 NB HS fell off.

How long it ran without cooling I will never know.

Same thing just happened to my Abit IS7 mobo. I managed to temporary repairs but I had some system instability. Just RMAed the mobo today to Abit. SHould get it back in 10+ days
