Broke my window in my apartment. Is it possible to just replace the glass instead of the whole window?

Just replace the sealed unit if it is a wood window. If it is vinyl or aluminum then buy a whole new window. If you wanted to replace "just the glass" it would cost you more than a new window.

It's just your standard white window like this (this is not the exact one). I broke the top half....

That's called a double-hung sash window. I'd actually guess it's single hung, since that's cheaper. does the upper sash move up and down, or is it fixed in place?

In any case, it doesn't matter, you will probably be replacing the entire sash. Just call a contractor, he'll probably be able to order the part and do the job in like 90 minutes.

Or, since you've replaced a window before, you might be able to get the replacement part yourself. Figure out the make/model of the window and see about a replacement.

it moves up and down. how much would something like that cost? is it possible to do w/o taking put the frame?

upon closer inspection, I see that this window may be the type that pops in and out. On the top of each one, there are these tabs that you push. I couldn't pull the window out, but maybe I was not pulling hard enough.

Yes it can be repaired.

A glass shop can install a new pane into that frame. You just need to remove the sash that is broken and bring it to them. But then, you will be without a way to keep air and other things out of the apartment until the glass is fixed. Some shops can do it while you wait. Looks like the shop Squisher linked to will come to you. Maybe even be able to do the repair on site.

Absolutely, unless you have a really odd window. Just call a few glass shops and they'll come out, measure, and give you a quote.

I would estimate cost at around 1/2 the window cost.

At my old house, the kitchen window developed a crack. I called a couple of companies and both came out, measured, and gave me a quote. I chose one and they ordered it and came back out to replace it. It wasn't super cheap but it was cheaper than a new window and I could not have done it myself.
