Broke a brand new driver at the course today

Mill

Lifer
First time playing with this new driver. Adams Golf is the maker, and I broke the head off from the shaft. 10 hole, and I got a piece of the ground on my tee shot, and the head went flying. Anyone had success with repairs from the manufacturer? It certainly wasn't abuse, but I admit that I got a little ground and I was swinging pretty hard. Sigh.

It should be replaced under warranty. If they refuse to, you can buy a new shaft and get the club reshafted (the head is the more expensive part, and the head should be fine, it's the shaft that broke).

A "piece" of the ground? A little ground? Modern driver shafts don't break if you catch a piece of the ground. You must have caught a huge amount of ground.

Adams Golf has a 2 year warranty. Take it back to where you bought it and hope they don't deem that the damage was abuse. Despite what your intentions were, taking a big chunk of dirt with a driver can be considered as abuse, the club is not designed to handle that.

Did yoou pay for it with your amex card?

FIRST, take it back to the store you got it from. I used to work at sports authority, and they were pretty generous about the 90 day return fee. In reality, it really is ur fault that its broken, but they will be able to send it back to the manufacturere and get you a replacement right then and there. However, if you got it froma golf specialty store, or golf outlet, they might be a lot more strict at takin your club and givin you a replacement right there

There was not a large divot or anything. In fact, you could barely tell where it contacted the ground.

You should definitely be able to return it to the manufacturer.

Although not Adams, my friends have had their Callaway drivers break and Callaway would send them back a new upgraded version of the driver. I've seen this happen twice.

Callaway makes junk, but their customer service is the best in the business. I guess when you charge $999 for a $150 set of irons you can afford to be generous.

Yes, but not my Platinum. My Starwood. Not sure if it has damage protection or not.

It should. I believe the Starwood carries the same warranties on purchased goods as the other cards.

I haven't even bought a set of irons yet. I'm playing with an old pair of Wilson's that my friend gave me. I'm absolutely horrid at golf so far -- so I've only bought a driver, a putter, and some woods. Well, I actually *did* buy a set of irons, but I took them back. There's another thread on that, hehe.

Right now my swing is just horrible. I'm out there hacking and getting the top of the ball every time. Putting I actually do well. My Maxfli putter has been absolutely lights out. Speaking of Callaway... my friend has Callaway irons. I hit them a lot better than the Wilson's, but no way I'm buying irons that expensive. I absolutely 100% cannot hit the Wilson Pitching Wedge that I have. 🙁 I suck so far, so I figure I need to take lessons. I shot a 75 on the front nine today, so that should give you an idea of how much I suck.

So, are you guys saying I should take it back to Dick's or should I call Adams?

1) take it back to dick's

2) for cheaper irons, buy used

3) you probably shouldn't even be hitting a driver right now, but in reality i know part of the appeal is to whack the ball as far as you can. it's understandable.

Im a 225 yard straight and middle height driver. I'm good with my 6,7,8,9 irons, and chipping. Putting depends on grass and day.

Usually play bogey golf when I concentrate...

play wilson irons, callaway drivers, odysseey putters and prefer balls that are soft and 3 piece

Hmm. It isn't really about distance to me... it is simply that right now I hit a driver off a tee better than a wood and certainly an iron.
