When I can afford it, I'd just go with a Haswell Mac mini because that's good enough for me should Apple not update it towards the end of the year. I am curious though if anyone thinks it's possible that a BMM could come out by Q4 of this year or will Apple just wait until Skylake if they plan on continuing the line.

Either way, I'm on a 2011 Mac mini that is still serving me well (knock on wood) so it's only a matter of integrated graphics, Iris 5100 or 6100 and 6100 would be better vs. my HD 3000.

The Mac Mini update was pushed back because Intel pushed back the schedule on the parts it will use. I'd expect a refresh sometime around the 'Back to School' thing.
 
Being that the 13" rMBP was updated today, I am hoping for an update in the fall and think I may just double my memory now for the time being. If worse comes to worse, I will end up getting a Haswell mini.

I'd go for the 2014 now if the Core M is any indication of what's to come for the Mini.

I have the 2014 base mini with 8GB. It turbos to 2.7 GHz. It's enough to get the job done without feeling slow. I added a 256GB SSD for $85. Total was $655 for a pretty marvelous little box. I got mine from Mac Mall for $568. They are an approved Apple reseller, and that $30 savings buys some decent apps to get you going.

My Mac Mini is completely silent; it's also small, so it's easy to place in a room filled with stuff like mine is.

If I had to guess, I'd say the next Mac Mini will be 2/3rd the size of the current one, and 1/4 the height and coupled with the rather reedy Core M that's in the new Macbook.
 
I just read the first post. If you don't already have an SSD, drop that in your current Mini and skip the 2014; it's a pretty nominal upgrade in CPU grunt...and can't say for GPU since I haven't played a single game on it.
 
Hey guys is it smart to buy the mac mini haswell now or should I wait for the new Mac mini another 6 months.
P.S. First time switcher from windows to mac

The 2014 mini is only a dual core processor regardless of model, and has soldered RAM so you cannot self upgrade. If you're doing anything even remotely multithreaded (video/music/image editing) the 2012 model is significantly faster.

Which is a shame, because I was ready to pull the trigger on a brand new mini and instead I'm now on the hunt for a used/refurb 2012 mid-range model.
