I've had roadrunner for about 18 months with no notable problems.
With one annoying exception. If I try to download a file that is more than perhaps a few MB it seems to hang during the DL. It'll get partway through and the browser's progress bar (IE or Mozilla, makes no difference) will just stop at 13%, 29%, whatever. If I restart the download it'll immediatelly start again (from scratch in Mozilla, IE is smart enough to know where it left off.)
So if I'm trying to download something that's 30MB, it might take me 8-10 tries to get the entire thing.
And this has another very annoying side effect, I can't really listen to web radio of any kind (regardless of the source). The stream will come down and play for maybe 30 seconds then just stop. If I hit play or refresh it will immediately start again, then arbitrarily stop again after maybe 15 or 40 seconds this time. Annoying as hell.
I think it's worth noting that when I can download, it's quite fast.
Some examples, from this site I just got:
http://www.adslguide.org.uk/tools/speedtest.asp
Downstream 2678 Kbps (334.8 KB/sec) 2892 Kbps (inc. overheads)
Upstream 349 Kbps (43.6 KB/sec) 376 Kbps (inc. overheads)
From here I got:
http://speedtest.dslreports.com
-- 2567 down
-- 348 up
Any ideas? This has happened for as long as I can remember. Modem's been reset many times. This has happened on 3 different PCs so I don't think the problem is on this end?
I also have a Linksys wireless router (802.11b, BEFW11S4), but this PC has a direct ethernet cable hookup. Once I physically removed the router and just went straight to the modem and it did the same thing. I also turned off ZoneAlarm wondering if it was the problem, but again no difference.
The PC is clean, always running AVG and Adaware and Spybot are run w/ updates several times/week. The PCs have had no other problems so I don't suspect a virus or spyware. I'm pretty much stumped.
Thanks very much in advance for all ideas and leads, and Merry Christmas!!!!
