Broadband in new flat is weird!

Just moved into my new flat in Sheffield (England) and the broadband is built in to every room!

There's 2 LAN sockets in the wall in every bedroom and the service is provided by ask4.

You sign up for the service and, when you first open your web browser, you are taken to the ask4 login page. Once you have entered your details you then have internet access as normal. Problem is, my flatmates and I were hoping to share the same login and so split the cost of the access, but only one person can have access at a time!

Anyone know if a wireless router will work what with having to log in?

Thanks for reading

You can use either type of Router ... you may need to call them to ask how to set it up
as far as login type, such as PPoE or whatever, and you will need to know if the router
should be set to Fixed IP on the WAN port or not ... but yes, it can be done

the thing about calling them is...
In the 'terms of use', it does say:

"The Services are intended to be used within a single dwelling and on a single computer. The Customer shall not make the services available to any third party by any means, and in particular but without prejudice, by using any form of wireless access system. It is the Customer?s responsibility to secure their own computers and systems so that third parties cannot gain access to the System and use resources without the Customer?s specific knowledge."

So it would be a bit naughty, and I wouldn't want to alert ask4 to the fact that I was thinking about getting a router. But you reckon it would work eh?

I just read their Terms of Use ... Technically, you are correct
The Service is for 1 computer at a time .. They do not permit
Wireless Routers or Access Points as that might let a Non Paying
person access their network .. However, I think a Hard Wired
Router would be ok and hard for them to prove you have it connected.

IWhat if you have a Desktop PC & a Laptop ? ? Same user, 2 computers .. you
should not need to unplug one to hookup your other one ... I am sure they
will allow use of a router
