Broadband...here I come Update: **THIS SUCKS**

Or so I hope. ATT's site says that cable internet is not available at my residence but the cabletv guy told me that it is available and that the people at the call center are a bunch of noobie idiots. Hes gonna call me tomorrow and give me the hopefully good news. Im gonna get 6 months @ 19.95 and 34.99 therafterif I buy my own cable modem. Im thinking about the $80 after rebate modem from best buy.

BTW, what should I start downloading after I get the fat pipe? 😀

UPDATE:The ATT guy just left after inspecting the cable lines. Since I live in a block townhouse, everyone has their cable connection from one pole or something. He said that the cable lines on the pole were really messed up and just looking at them he could tell it wasn't going to work. He checked with some other guy and he confirmed that it wasn't available in my specific location. Its gonna be a couple of months until it is available, but the other issue is that the main cable lines come from the back of the house where the poles are, but my room is located at the other end, the front of the house. My room would need a direct link to the main cable line in order to get broadband access.

Even if I sign up for DSL, itll probably be a month or two for them to even send the equipment and stuff.

DAMNIT

Im gonna go drink

You'll like it.

If you like metal, you should test your new found bandwidth on the song Dante's Inferno by Iced Earth. 17 minutes.. mmm.. 😉

I see you're in Illinois....hopefully not in Chicago.
I'm on the north side and getting ATT cable internet here installed was one big hassle.
I was finally up and running about two weeks after the first scheduled service call/installation.

The only good that came of it was two free months and a few more at 19.99

btw, I'd be careful with that mention of fat pipe :Q

You really have to ask? We already know what you're going to start with. When you get the broadband you make the change from pics to videos and live streams 😉

uh-oh...Im in Elk Grove but my friends all seem to get relatively decent speeds

I wish there were like summer subscriptions available for when I'm not in college. Dial up blows at home, and there's really no point in getting broadband since my parents don't know how to use the internet. Mebbe I'll just stay at my friends house for 3 months...

Oh, I think you know what you should download...

LMAO! 😉

My cable TV gut once told me that as well...two years later it was finally available. good luck to you.

When I got Road Runner, their web site said that my house coulden't have it either, even though my friend up the road had it. So we called them up, and they coulden't find the house anywhere. They basicly didn't know where the house was. Oh, did I fail to mention that both houses to either side of this one had Time Warner Cable? I think they should have been able to figure it out 🙂

Anyway, they found us, the installer guy came in, and the hardest part of the install was when I had to tell him "Uh...yes....plug it into the hub....We'll..uh...only use it on....er...one computer *coughcough* at a time" 🙂

As soon as he left I pulled out the router 😉

Between y2kc and Derango's experience, I have a 50/50 chance of getting it. Damnit, now Im afraid to call the cable guy and ask him for the good/bad news.

Im gonna go psych myself up then call him up. Ill let you know how it goes

WOOOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!

The cable guy confirmed that my address is broadband ready. Theyre coming to install it on wednesday. Now I need to go find my own cable modem and a router...😀

<running off to HD>

If you're going to buy a cable modem get it now that way the first 6 months will only be $10/month (here anyway, I assume it's the same deal everywhere). 😀
