Broadband connection not working in XP

I just installed Windows XP on my main system, which connects via our lan, to a router, which connects to the cable modem. This system has always worked perfectly with Win2k, i always just choose the local area connection option, tell it to autodetect, and it works fine. Now in XP, I've tried several different combinations of options when setting up the connection, nothing has achieved anything more than "cannot find server or DNS error". Is there some weird hoop I have to jump through to get this to work? Anyone else having similar problems? Any ideas?

Fixed it.... I think more voodoo than anything else, but I basically messed around with the different options more, and one of the times it worked.

Yeah, there's some voodoo involved in there somewhere. Every time I add a new machine to my home network I have to repeatedly reboot and/or cycle the power on my router. Eventually, the router assigns it an IP and all is well in DHCP land. I'm beginning to think that this is more art than science, however :disgust:

alot of times doing a ipconfig /release and then waiting for about 30 seconds, then doing a ipconfig /renew will force you to get an IP.
