Broadband and routers...

Is there anything that would cause our ping times to be abnormally slow going through our router but not when directly connected to the modem? It'll be fine for like an hour then our ping times will be in the 500's for 12 hours. It'll then settle down for awhile and then resume.....it's kinda terrible...
The connection is fine when we go straight into a computer...
 
post in the networking thread / update all drivers for NIC's / get new cables / get a new router
