I don't venture over here often - so spare me the flames. Up front... this is a blatant recruiting thread.

DPAD (Distributed Particle Accelerator Design) is a relatively obscure Distributed Computing project. Your Anandtech DPAD TeAm is presently ranked 4th in the world.

We've basically had our faces spit in by the "great" US-Distributed team. We can take the disrespect - but sending a couple of guys over to spy, and crunch big numbers - then try to derail our efforts and demoralize the team -- only THEN to take over 6,000,000 points BACK to US-D (leaving us with a 12,000,000 point defecit to overcome) is really the last straw. We're asking for 300 volunteers - to open up a GREAT BIG TA can of "whoop-ass" on these "gentlemen."
This is just a fraction of the over 30,000 users of this forum. If you've got some smart-a$$ comment - keep it to yourself. We're serious about this. If you're about nothing but taking bandwidth free from Anand - more power to you (I guess). If you're even remotely into giving something BACK - then read on.

Now... you're ALL geeks - or you wouldn't be here. Surely your unused CPU cycles can be spared for a good cause. These guys have HUGE, HULKING GOLIATH systems available to them. We're just regular geeks with a PC or two. How about a hand for the little guys?

Here's everything (practically) you need to know about DPAD
It's EASY - it's fun and it's for TA.

Team Anandtech plays fair, but make no mistake -- we're going to be #1 in this race. To call what has transpired "situationally ethical" would be quite gracious. Now -- I want to see some STOMPING~!

Well... can you STOMP? Even ONE machine helps. Don't do it for me... do it for Anand -- who makes these forums possible. :)

I'm there but we need all the help we can get.
If a lot of our TA family could contribute just 1 PC one day a week we would be #1 in a short period of time.

Here's to being #1:beer:

DPAD is great and we would love to have some of you guys on the TeAm!!!

OK here's some stuff about DPAD that not everybody knows...:D

a Worthy project :)...Well it's not just about building a Neutrino Factory it's also going to be used in experiments for neutralizing radioactive waste by transmuting the radioactive elements into stable ones.

How much wu to cache ...This is the beauty of DPAD, you download the client and it starts calculating results...no caching of wu...no running out of wu...nothing like that...It can autosend when the result.txt file reaches 100k...about 2days on a P4 2.6GHz, or you can manualsend it whenever you like...like after a month...if you wanna do some dumpen...

a Dial-up modem :(...Connect whenever you like...results are small so sending is fast....

How bout my old pcs :p...DPAD runs great on older pc's, I've got some cel400s running...takes a few days to reach 100k...but believe me 100k is a lot! and it's 100k you didn't have...

Installations :)...DPAD can run in the background...has a screensaver....and has a service install from soni, oh and it works with HT cpu's!

But is it fun :D...DAYUM yeah, this is the most fun you can have sitting alone in ur room...the TeAm is great, great stats that update hourly, and we're movin up in the rankings! But when SETI ends a lot of the other teams are gonna gain new members...and so do we! + we have the hottest babes and the coldest beer in TA :D

Mine crashed as well. I still don't know how to join TA. Or am I automatically joined when I put [TA] in front of my name?

We'll man it's the easiest one I've seen...:D

Ok, I did what that page said, but how do I join Team Anandtech?

All you have to do is put [TA] in front of your user name in the user.txt file
for instance [TA]hypersonic5 is what your user name would look like in the user.txt file

It's not an install... you copy the files from the zip file to a moum directory then you run the .exe files. Neither file would run w/o crashing immediately. I run xp btw.

Hang on a second....

I thought these folks were GEEKS. What's with this "AOL" cluelessness????? :Q
C'mon now guys. You're supposed to be the elite of the computing world. I was wondering why all the H-1 visas were being issued, and all our jobs being "outsourced" to India and Pakistan. Could it be that they were RIGHT???? :Q

I don't think so.

Sorry guys... I don't mean to be overly critical...

I've just got over 50 guys running this thing with no problemo. Help us to help you...
C'mon over to distributed and let's sort out the problems. We'll be happy to help you to get this thing going perfectly -- just like it is for the rest of us. :)

Thanks VERY much for stepping up! You guys are OK!

There are two versions of DPAD. 4.34 and 4.33a. 4.34 was released on Friday, so it still might be a bit bugy. Ig it crashes on you, just use the 4.33a. The results will count the same and u can change any time later when the bugs have been cleaned out :D

There's for sure a point to all this...however not money...but indeed cold beer and hot babes!!! :D:D:D

The project is fun and being part of the TeAm is great! The respect of the DC community and our fellow crunchers is the reward for winning! ohh and the cold beer and hot babes waiting in the hot tub of course! :D

You'll enjoy it, so give it a go! :D
