The bigotry displayed in this thread is disturbing.

You could learn something from Britney, yourselves.

Bigotry?? 😕

Don't worry, he is probably a youngun fresh into colelge or not even out of High School who thinks they know better than most people how the world should work because pop culture wants to make everything, okay and permissible? 😉

I do think if you base your career and life on having a public image that you do in fact have a responsibility to society to present yourself in certain ways that an average and reasonable person would deem as acceptable. These sorts of people are, in fact, influential on the lives of people, in this case namely teenagers. If they (e.g. Britney) do not want the responsibility in having a responsible/acceptable image, then they should not make themselves public figures. It sort of boils down to a "have your cake and eat it too" sort of analogy. The can not have the public exposure and fan base and then just pretend they have no influence on said fan base; with great power comes great responsibility, so to speak.
Um, her public image was being hot. I don't see her doing anything different in that picture.

Hot does not mean irresponsible crack whore appearance. There are more than plenty of celebrities who are hot as hell who do not need to look like a two-bit slut at every opportunity.

Actually I'm 49. I did not say the comments should not be permitted.

And I think it's obvious that the comments are manifestations of what is acceptable in pop culture these days, 180 degrees from your description of it. To me it's a sign of how we have been going backwards as a culture, in many ways, for quite a few years.

So you were a hippie?

Guys seriously, is anyone Britany's age a good role model? She young. Its not like shes a 40 year old congress(wo)men. Would you have considered yourself a good role model at her age? Shes just a young girl living her life. I wouldn't consider any rap artist a role model.....and I wouldn't consider Brittany a role model. If kids pick her as one (as they naturally will) they will learn. Who was your role model growing up? He-man who is now considered gay? Mr Rogers? Come on...dumb question in my opinion.

the answer to your question is represented by the, what 10..11yo girl in the blue on the right. this is the fruit of the labor of promoting an attitude like the one represented by spears, and the lack of discipline from parents who allow thier children to mimic that "class act".

yeah judge how good of a role model she is by one picture, do you know how many pictures are taken of her? it's up to parents to help their kids pick good role models, and honestly i think most parents dont even care that much.. if it's not britney then it's hillary duff or lindsay lohan or whoever. eventually the kids going to grow up and live the life they choose role model or not. and often it's the abstract of the model that stays with us, these kids dont want to be britney spears, they want to be singers/models/actresses/mommies.

Mr. Rogers was a very good role model in life.

Britney is a bad role model. That's not based on the picture in the OP, btw. Remember, she started out in the music industry as a sqeaky clean and innocent pop icon. She even declared to her young fans that she would wait until marriage to have sex.

She was initially rather disturbed that older men viewed her as a sex object, but soon realized how much power she wielded with her body and semi-talented vocal ability. There's for more money to be made from sexifying her image than her sqeaky clean image. The temptation for fame and fortune is too hard to ignore.

Is Britney a good role? Absolutely not. Is she more of a slut than her peers? No. Given the chance most young women today would go the same route as she did.

Britney

So do you think she's a role model to the 2 little girls in the pic?
ie: Screw what society expects of you... do your own thing

Or do you think she's setting a bad example?

Discuss
She is not obligated to set ANY example. That is her life, she can lead it any way she chooses. I think she is setting a better example than ATOT posters (ie. be a fat geek and waste your time posting bullsh!t).

Says the man with 6204 posts.

Says the man not criticizing someone for how they lead their life.

I have over 10k posts and that isn't that much imo for being here for 5yrs. My PPD isn't high imo. Like a lot of people here we do a lot of things outside of ATOT. We just choose to spend sometime here

I suppose if you had like 100ppd that would be a lot imo, well unless you did no work at work 😛

I think nearly 100% of us can attest to being naive at one point or another, in our lives. Britney being in her teens and that crazy (public) declaration would and it did come back to bite her in the ass. Yeah it was a mistake or a masterstroke media/ public relations stunt pulled MILLIONS for her.

She has hundreds of photo taken of her daily and if she is caught bad she gets cained by the public. If she dress sexy she gets cained. You can't win with the media. People don't want to read people doing this good deed or something 'kind'. People want to look at people being down trodded etc.

I think you would be crazy to just go yup that one person is my role model. A wiser person would pick good parts of people for their role model. WHO wants to be a role model?!

Shes no perfect role model but I could think of worser role models. And I bet you guys that have gone to college have done more crazy things . I know I have 😛. Just that they don't happen to be splashed across the newspapers.

Young teens want to dress older. They dress revealing. A normal clothes store was selling THONGS for 4-7yr olds I think! That caused a storm...

And the age old thing, guys can go topless but women get cained 😛

Screw what society expects of you... do your own thing

Besides teen pregnancy, unwed mothers living in poverty, not even knowing who the father is, this wondrous liberal culture has even more to love!

STDs on the rise
  • The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports there are more than 65 million people living with incurable STDs in the United States, and at least one in four Americans will contract an STD at some point in their lives.
