I just watched Neds. Kind of disturbing in a really dry, mundane way; just like Trainspotting, and This Is England. I dig the movies, but all three have left me with a lasting unease. Maybe it's just what I gravitate towards based on the description, but that's a peculiar little niche they've got going on over there.

Yea, there's been a decent number of rough and gritty English films over the last couple of decades.

I also Liked Kidulthood and Adulthood ... very gritty

I didn't find Trainspotting to be dry or mundane in any way at all...really enjoyed that movie a ton...I'll have to look up the others as I've never heard of them

See Tyrannosaur. It's amazing and it definitely stuck with me. Also Dead Man's Shoes, another great Brit flick.

I thought all three I listed were very "normal"; Like a snapshot of daily life. That's not remarkable in and of itself, but the tension and drama infused in the more or less routine circumstances is interesting, and not what I'm used to in movies. This is England was especially dramatic in that regard. Nothing happened for most of the movie, but I spent the whole movie expecting something to happen any second.
