As previously mentioned, in this case support and spare parts are probably included.

this, maintaining these guns is the real cost, they're going to be in service for many, many years afterall.

Big upgrade from the Hi-Powers. Since it's a general service sidearm I'm surprised they didn't spec for an option that included a manual safety or decocker. They could have chosen the FNX-9 at around the same price point, and IMHO it's a better weapon but the G17 certainly is no slouch in its own right.

Which is from what I understood the reason the US Army didn't go with Glocks, no external safety.

M9s are better than G17s.

LOL, while it is sort of subjective ...no, they are not.

Having used the M9 as my issue sidearm for quite some time, I don't share the disdain that many others do for it. However, I still must admit that "M9 > Glock 17" is an opinion I don't think I've ever heard uttered before. Certainly folks have said they believe the Sig Sauer P226 should have been selected instead of the Beretta, or even that the S&W Model 469 was unfairly eliminated during procurement testing. I could even buy an argument that the cost vs. value proposition of the Beretta is better than the Glock, but never that the Beretta is a better weapon on the merits.

I bought a Glock 17 new in 1994 and it has required exactly zero spare parts and it came with the standard 2 17 round magazines. I've put thousands of rounds through it in the years I've owned it. Great gun. Very reliable and accurate, plus it is easy to disassemble and clean.
This except 1991 and my bro "borrowed" it a few months back.....:\

Surprised they didn't go 5.7 or the other way, 10mm.

Actually, knowing the Brits, I'm surprised they didn't make up their own brand new gun company with yet another random ammo caliber that only fits guns from this new company. Then given these new guns that are relatively unproven with unproven ammo and said, "Have at it boys!" This is something typical of Brits :)

Nah, they have to be NATO spec. Who knows? We might get into a conflict with a 3rd world shit-hole and have to buy some ammo after a few weeks. :D

Brits got out of the gun manufacturing business a while ago IIRC. Even the SA80 is made by H&K under license. Shame they decided to go all nanny state, they had some awesome designs back in the day.

I think the more important question is does it have more than a 10 round magazine.

After all there is no legitimate reason to need more than that. If our soldiers cannot hit there target with 10 rounds then we should probably rethink our training program :D

sig p210 (m/49 neuhausen) >* :colbert:

standard issue in the danish army, over 60 years of service and eventhough they're slowly getting replaced by USPs the soldiers still cling to them for dear life.

they fetch a good price on the US market too, over $2k.

Exactly, especially since they get so much other types of support that homeowners won't get. I mean, if you're a soldier and can call in arty, mortars, air...gezus, why do they even need a 10 round mag? I'd think, like, 6 round mag should be plenty.

If they think they need more because the enemy has more, then, just pass a law that the enemy is not allowed to have more than 6 round mags. Poof! Now everyone will be at parity and we'll have reduced accidental killings.

No one needs more than 10 rounds in a magazine, because no one can put in more rounds beyond 10 without developing arthritis.

The M9 in Battlefield 3 is awesome, much better than the Glock in the game.

Did the game designers ever even fire one? I don't like the M9. It seems awfully big and heavy for such a small round. It didn't feel as good in the hand as either a Glock or 1911. I hated the trigger pull. I don't like the safety on the slide. All in all it's my least favorite pistol that works.

I didn't like the balance when I fired an M9 either. Just felt underpowered, front-heavy and chunky all around. It's certainly a viable weapon, but it's outclassed by many modern options IMO.

I have a couple of 1911's and 3 Glocks, 26, 19, and 21. The Glock 19 is my favorite to carry. I love the way the Beretta M9 feels in the hand and the slide is as smooth as butter but yeah the stock trigger SUCKS!

Let me shoot you with a 9mm slug and then a .45 and then let me know which feels manlier. >:D

I can tell you the .45 is far manlier but....NO! You may not shoot me with either! Not even a .22! Ive seen your BF3 stats you cant shoot for shit!

I don't understand that logic. Manual safeties and anything else that complicates the gun are bad especially for a general service pistol.
