Calling all British and Canadian readers:

Would you rather have your current British or Canadian health care system or would you rather have the American health care system?

If you could press a magic button and change your nation's health care system, would you change it to the American system?

I lived in london for 6 months last year. They like to complain about the NHS over there, but not a single one I met would trade healthcare systems.

Ours is the fucking joke of the first world.

How about an option for 'Both'

I am Canadian and I would prefer a two tier health care system (both a private and public option).

5 family members of mine have been dealing with fairly significant health concerns over the last few years (my mom has been dianosed with cancer twice).

Some of them have chosen to go to the states and pay out of pocket for health care which is faster and more resourceful than our own, however, not everyone can afford that and a socially subsidized alternative is necessary.

I've never had a problem with our system, I just don't think a private option should be outlawed.

I also think that certain people shouldn't be allowed to use public health care (such as people that willingly expose themselves to harmful habits of living) because the rest of us get stuck paying the bill for their heart transplants and keeping them alive while they die of lung cancer.

I'd still prefer the French System if we went that route. The French basically have that combo.

Now follow up with "Would you rather have American Income Tax Rates?".

And for those claiming US healthcare is a joke, please, give me a break.

Yeah, our tax rates are nice and low...but our expenditures are extremely high and our national debt even higher. How long do you suppose that will last? Is that sustainable?

Personally, I'd rather have decent healthcare than be waging a costly and unwinnable war in Iraq.

It's downright strange and overbearing that your government outlaws private health care. We have both here, and I've used the private option once (it was expensive and not worth it in the end, but gave me peace of mind at the time).

Just took a glance at my latest paycheck, never actually bothered to check what the actual percentage tax I pay is. It turns out it's ~22% (this includes CPP and EI - otherwise it would be ~18%). I'm in Canada making <75k/year. Not sure if that's high by American standards or not.

I think the whole "Canadians pay way more tax" thing is a myth, I could be wrong.
