A doctor involved in horrific torture by Saddam Hussein’s henchmen is working in British hospitals.

In an astonishing immigration scandal, border officials have allowed the suspected war criminal to treat thousands of British patients.


Dr Mohammed Kassim Al-Byati was given a permit to work as a doctor in the NHS by the Labour government in 2004.


Checks failed to uncover his history of working for the notorious Iraqi Intelligence Agency, which ran the country in a reign of terror during the Saddam years.


His job was to patch up torture victims so that they could be subjected to more appalling treatment.

Regardless of whether he was a "terrorist" by definition, or "terror supporter" ... the fact remains he was not a very nice guy.
 
Judging by the outrage here, I was kinda expecting to hear this guy was an Iraqi Mengele or Heim.

There's not enough detail here to make a decision on this man being either a sadistic scumbag or a medical professional that did what he was told, knowing full well what happened to people that displeased Saddam. Let's not forget doctors are required to render aid to those who need it. IMO this relies more on whether or not this guy took part in said acts of torture. If so, then the Home Office has some real explaining to do.

If it turns out he was just following orders that coincided with his obligations as a doctor (also allowing him to keep all his fingernails and stay out of the chipper) then I have less of a problem with that. There were lots of Iraqis that were Baathists not out of dedication to Saddam, but out of necessity or familiar obligations.

As is typical of short articles these days the pertinent info isn't there so we're left to fill in the blanks and guess. But P&N would hardly exist if journalism was worth a damn.

He constantly insists they make up articles, but every article is also found on other sites.
