Mother of Palin daughter's boyfriend arrested

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) ? Alaska state troopers have arrested the mother of Bristol Palin's boyfriend on drug charges.

Sherry L. Johnston was arrested Thursday after troopers served a search warrant on a Wasilla home. The 42-year-old Johnston has been charged with six felony drug counts.

Troopers did not identify the drug involved in a brief mention on the agency's Web site.

Johnston is the mother of 18-year-old Levi Johnston. Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, the GOP nominee for vice president, announced in September that her 18-year-old daughter, Bristol, was pregnant and Johnston was the father.

Sherry Johnston was released from jail in Palmer on $5,000 bail.

Wow!

There were stories of Wasilla being the drug capital of that county, but this is getting close to the Gov's family.

This is the future mother in law of the girl who was paraded all over the country as part of her mothers VP campaign.

Don't they have anything better to do with their spare time in Alaska other than produce babies, shoot moose and wolves, and do drugs?

I expect we'll see a couple more Alaska State Troopers lose their jobs over this...

Glad the Palin thread count is increasing. I mean we were really running out of things to discuss around here.

I wonder what the 'controlled substance' was?

'Six felony drug counts' sounds serious but it might have been a handful of nickel bags for her own use and the police jacked up charges for suspected distribution.

I wonder if that $5k bond is a big deal? Doesn't really seem like much for 'six felony drug counts' ...

Maybe Levi was getting cold feet (well colder than usual for Alaska) about marrying Palin's Daughter and a message was sent to him via his mother.

Wow, one minute Alchemize is posting 'space wasting' content-free posts, and responding almost bragging with pride about it; the next, he's complaining about the same.

This is a legit nest item, especially given the political issue about how the extreme religious right's approach to things is ineefective and even harmful.

While they're out cuttign off aid to nations because of their 'abstinence only', discredited ideological approach, statistics show they have high rates of problem behaviors.

Just as it was legitimate to say that Dick Cheney has a lesbian daughter when his base so widely wrongly says homosexuality is just a 'lifestyle choice', it's legitmate to note that the extreme right-wingers who run on messages of waving self-righteous banners and attacking their opponents for immorality, are not quite the 'solution' they claim based in part on their own weak results in matching their own proclaimed standards.

No need for any excessive personal attacks and abuse, but some mention of the facts, and rebutting of the arrogant crusading, is quite appropriate.

And Time magazine has pictures of Obama smoking weed, and he admitted to cocaine use. People don't seem to care about drug use that much.

I do, but the majority doesnt

Are you sure that Sherry L. Johnston is a member of the "extreme religious right"? Sounds more like she might be a liberal lefty. ;)

Are you saying we need to make an even bigger issue out of Wright, Ayers, Rezco, Blagojevich, etc.? :D

So Sherry L. Johnson is a Republican running for office on a Religious Right-type platform?

If not, your post is complete nonsense.

So the governor's daughter's, babydaddy's mother got busted. This reflects very poorly on Palin's judgment. No, wait, it has nothing to do with her. Damnit.

Your logic is slightly worse than 'if the glove doesn't fit, you must acquit'.

Again.

but the glove didn't fit and he was acquit. ed.

My, that's weak. For one thing, the democrats aren't the ones running on a far-right fundamentalist platform that attacks others the way the Palin crowd is.

The Wright issue was a legitimate story - and it was then overhyped and distorted. Ayers, what need be said, not a legitimate news story, and highly overhyped and also distorted.

Rezco, the same. Blagojevich, extremely legitimate news story, very legitimate to ask about Obama connections - which appear to be non-existent from the evidence so far.

No, I don't think any of those were 'underreported'. I don't think this arrest is, either; it's merely a legitimate news story that should not be hyped too much, as I said.

And the jury did not need to acquit, but did, resulting in a murderer going free.

If this routine drug arrest did not involve the Sarah Palin family in any way, it would not even have made the national news. And we would not be discussing it on P&N.

But if the drug arrest was somewhat politically motivated, there is something deeply unfair about putting the lives of anyone even tangentially associated with Palin or any other national public official
under the disproportionate microscope of law enforcement.
