Brisbane MIA?

Has anyone seen this chip in retail space or in OEM systems yet? I can't even find an SKU for the new 4000+, much less a chip.

We could always provide Brisbane OC data to ourselves if necessary, but that isn't possible if nobody can even find the chips to buy them.
 
I've been looking for it every day since "release". If anyone finds a retailer that will ship one to Sweden, I'll buy one immediately and give you guys a report.
 
I'm thinking the same thing you are. No OC info on these chips seems to be forthcoming. I'm tempted to buy one myself just to overclock it and see what it can do.

Of course, I'm not in Sweden, but where these chips pop up first is currently unknown.

The price on the 4000+ looks decent though. Got any thoughts on what board and memory you'd put in a test platform? AM2 overclocking is something I haven't watched much since Conroe launched.

Well, I have an AM2 system with a 3500+ CPU at the moment. It has a Gigabyte GA-M55S-S3 motherboard, which uses the Nforce 550 chipset. Overclocking through BIOS can be a little tricky, because of seemingly random boot problems. Overclocking with ClockGen in Windows works perfectly though. I haven't maxed this board yet, but I've been up to around 280MHz HTT. 300MHz shouldn't be much of a problem.

On the memory side, I'm using 2x1GB Kingmax DDR2-667, which are good for over 900MHz 4-4-4 on 2.05V.

The system should be enough to test out a 4000+. 🙂
 
I haven't even seen any reviews for Brisbane on mainstream websites. Granted, its performance is expected to be identical to other AM2 chips, but I still want to know power usage, heat, OC potential, etc.

Your memory is definitely going to be good enough. As for the board, does it have a BIOS update that will allow it to support Brisbane CPUs? I believe Brisbane will require a new BIOS for proper operation.

Personally I was hoping to test a 4000+ Brisbane on a board that can reach 330-360 mhz HTT or higher, but I might be overly optimistic wanting that . . .

No, there haven't been an update yet. Could maybe work anyway, but I guess Vcore would have to be set manually.

Even a 4000+ would reach almost 3.5GHz on a 330MHz HTT... To be honest, I don't think we'll get anywhere close to that with these initial 65nm CPUs. My guess is that the big win with these will be lower power consumption along with at most a 200MHz higher average overclock. I would be glad if I turn out to be wrong, though. 🙂
 
The main competition a 4000+ Brisbane will have in the budget overclock category will be a 3.0-3.2 ghz E6300. I guesstimate that you'd have to push a Brisbane to around 3.8 ghz to match or beat it with confidence. How likely is that? Not very.

Still, if it can reach that level, I'd hate to be board-limited when trying.

And I still want one of those chips unless someone else has tested one for us already. If anyone has any leads, please speak up.
 
Sad, you'd think there would at least be some review samples sent out to sites like Anandtech. It's their first 65nm chip!
 
BUt G2 is coming in March or so from what the posters said. This could be no factor considering K8L is so near and even if G2 puts some zest into X2 it would not be much more than 3 month span before been officially replaced by K8L.

K8L won't be available as a consumer model for a bit longer than that from what I have heard. It will be mostly Opteron only until the end of 2007.
