Bringing hardware on an airport?

Greetings

I plan on bringing some of my hardware on an airplane when I go to college, I need to transfer some parts to the new PC I am building.

My question is, is it safe to do so? Will x-rays damage hardware components? Will hardware look like bombs, and cause me to be detained?

Specifically, I want to bring my LCD monitor, harddrive, and video card.

Thanks for your help.

LCD and video card should not go with you except for hard drive Xray will not kill all 3 of them. LCD and video card need to be boxed together and go along with baggage. I prefer to carry hard drive with me at all times because hard drive is very senstive..the baggage handlers might be carelessly throw hard drive on hard surface.

Good luck with traveling

I recently carried a CD Drive with all the cables through SFO. I was re-screened only because I had to buy my ticket at the airport. I did feel kind of weird when they went into my briefcase and found the cables and some wire??? lol. Just let then know what they may find. I agree w/Rottie, carry the HDD on you if it contains data. Depending on the size you could carry-on all 3, make sure they are packed well and can fit in the overhead. Would not hurt to give the airlines a call.

I wouldn't carry that kind of stuff onboard with me. It looks very suspicious and it's just asking for trouble from homeland security.

Wait, you can't carry hardware items, but can take a laptop with you and use wireless internet on the airplane ? I dunno ... Sounds kinda weird to me ...

Well carry-on laptops are very common, whereas carry-on computer hardware components are not.

And that would suggest that they will be more vigilant than normal. However - it really is not a problem. Carry the HDD in a clear plastic bag in your pocket, and simpl7y put it in the tray with your wallet, watch, etc.
