So I have a set of golf clubs that I want to transport back to me on a flight..will this be easy to do? Any tips on doing so? I'm flying Southwest if that makes a difference.

You'll have to check it. Im sure their website has details on how much they're going to charge you too.

Get a bag carrier and check them in. There are hard and soft covers. Soft is cheaper, hard offers better protection for your clubs.

1) Check with the airline about costs.

2) Get a quality hardshell club carrier like something from Club Glove. DO NOT just attempt to wrap up a regular bag, you'll get your shafts bent or snapped.

Great advice, I fly with surfboards often and I have seen what the airlines can do to clubs and surfboards, they are not gentle at all. United being the worst in my experience. Expect them to be thrown around VERY hard and plan accordingly.

Just to reiterate - you will NOT be allowed to carry them on. You'll have to check them. A hard cover is essential.

Forgot the mention, half of the time, they come out 20-40 minutes after the luggage has been put on the carousel. Can be annoying if people are waiting for you.

Nope, lol.

My response was about to be, "You plan your fights? Badass."

I was thinking of that fight scene in Anchorman where the rival news teams bring different weapons.

From the southwest website

# Southwest Airlines limits carryon bag dimensions to 10x16x24 inches.
....
# Baggage Allowance: Beginning January 29, 2008, Southwest will allow two (2) checked pieces of baggage per ticketed Customer. Size and weight limitations apply.
# Excess Baggage: Effective January 29, 2008, you may check a third bag for a charge of $25. Your 4th through 9th bag or item will incur a charge of $50 per piece, and any bag or item thereafter will be $110 per piece.

From my experience traveling:
In my travels with southwest I remember reading that the 2nd piece of carry on luggage was free up to 50 lbs (or if golf clubs).
