Bringing alcohol onto planes

I might go to visit my friends for a few days and I want to bring them a nice case of German beer... I wonder if I could check that in? Does anyone have similar experiences?

it has to be sealed and you can't open it on the plane

check the website for your airline, it should have the details

i don't recommend checking breakable valuable stuff, that would be silly since they would either break it or steal it

Its illegal, but my friend smuggled a bottle of Absenth (sp?) back from Germany. If you have never had it, ohhhhhhh, this stuff is the best. Most likely because it is banned in the states. Like underage drinking and Cubans.
cuban cigars. Felt the claification was needed.

I check alcohol in my baggage all the time. no biggie.

-edit-
checking an entire case? Sounds good to me, just be sure you use something meant to ship that case. I think they make special boxes (there are special boxes used to ship a case of wine)

what airline are you on?

here is the southwest policy

http://www.southwest.com/travel_center/alcohol.html

You may carry alcohol through the security checkpoint and onboard our aircraft under the following conditions:

* Alcoholic beverage must be in the original container with the manufacturer?s label.
* Flasks or unmarked containers cannot be carried onboard unless they are empty.
* The seal may be broken or unbroken.
* The maximum quantity of alcohol that may be transported on Southwest Airlines per Customer is five liters. Wine is not subject to the five-liter-per-person limitation. Wine in checked baggage must be securely packaged in a leak-proof bag with a Styrofoam cushioning and a sturdy cardboard outer package to prevent spillage.
* Alcohol content may not exceed 70% by volume (140 proof) in either checked or unchecked luggage.
* As mandated by Federal Aviation Regulations, only alcohol served by Southwest Airlines Flight Attendants may be consumed onboard our aircraft.

It's illegal to buy or sell or import cubans. It's not illegal to have or smoke them. I'll be smoking some of them tonight 😀
