Bringing Alcohol on a Cruise.

I will be going on a Norwegian Cruise in two weeks.

I was wondering if you have had success bringing alcohol with you when you board?

I went on a Royal Caribbean cruise last September, after their alcohol policy changes to prohibit any alcohol onboard other than what was purchased on the ship at the bar.

I brought 2 huge bottles of vodka in my checked baggage, wrapped in clothes. They made it to my state room just fine.

Any alcohol purchased on the islands had to be tagged when you re-boarded and they would give it to you on the final day of the cruise. Same goes for any bottles you purchased on the ship in the duty free shop!

Sooo... breaking the rules was our best way of not paying hundreds of dollars in alcohol.

Yeah, you can bring it, you just cant drink it anywhere but in your cabin.

We go on cruises all the time. The best way to bring booze on board is to put it into a normal water bottle. Everyone has those normal water bottles.

I often drink myself silly on cruises and our tab has never been bad. Drinks on cruises are fairly cheap, IMHO. I was paying $8/glass of Glenfiddich 30 year and $6 for mixed drinks. Everything but the beer is chear than at bars.

Usually, as can of Coke costs more than a mixed drink.

Maybe cheaper than bars in NY/CALI but not in texas

norwegian cruise doesnt allow u to bring alcohol iirc

u can put the alcohol in some water bottles and sneak em on board that way tho

My cruise to Alaska last year, I filled two water bottles with Vodka. I also put 12 cans of Coke in my suitcase. My cruise ship charged $3.00 for Coke ($36 saving). I did find out that most cruise ships will now sell you a unlimited soda pass. For $25 per person, you show your pass and get all the soft drinks you want. You have to decide on bringing your own soda or buying individually. Coffee and Iced Tea were free.

If its obvious, they'll confiscate it. I'm sure they wouldnt come up and inspect everything that looked suspicious though.

Yes in fact we do.

All checked baggage is radiographed. Bottles found in grips will be flagged. You will get a nasty-gram from security delivered to your stateroom asking you to report to a waiting room on deck 12. You will be asked to empty your grip and explain what the bottles are. :Q

A bottle here and a bottle there is not a problem - but a bottle in every shoe in one bag will get you flagged. Liquor that's confiscated will be kept in stowage until the last night of the cruise when you can claim it. If it's a bottle of wine you wish to have (which is not on the winelist) you can opt to have it served at dinner and pay a corkage fee.

It's pretty standard policy on most lines.

Some people are pretty desperate. They will buy those huge bottles of Listerine at a wholesale club, dump it and fill the bottle with whiskey. :Q

Some even buy those drip feed pouches from medical suppliers and fill them with different liquor and mixes and even bring a blender onboard. :shocked:

Just don't become a zombie and fall overboard.
