Bringing a laptop to Costa Rica: how do I keep it charged?

So my friend might be spending a semester in Costa Rica and she needs to bring her Dell Inspiron laptop with her to do research...my question is: how will she keep it charged?

The electric outlets are different there, so we were wondering if there are any special converters for a laptop, as opposed to those cheapo ones you can buy at radio shack. This is a laptop, not an electric razor, so we want to make sure no damage will be done.

wrong forum, but I'll bite anyway..

laptops can handle 110-240V in the power brick that does the "conversion" for you. Just make sure you have the right plug adapter and surge protection and you will be good to go.

ok, on a similar note then...i will be bringing my canon powershot s230 to Spain next semester...does canon sell any special "european" battery chargers?

I'm actually doing that on my trip to Europe this summer. The charger is rated at 110v-240v also so all you'll need is the adapter to change from US to whichever European country you're going to (I think). Hope this helps.

After reading Howard's post, I'll have to keep a good eye out on my belongings.
