I don't get it...
Are you offering to hook people up with free cable internet? Why would anyone need help? Those retarted technicians come and hook everything up for you (or you tell them to fvck off and end up doing it yourself).

I'm an @Home Tier2 tech. No, I'm not setting anyone up with free cable -that would be stupid because I, myself, still have dialup. I'm helping people with their existing account or pointing people in the right direction if they're interested in the service. This might be news to you, but not everyone knows everything about how to fix their service. Besides... a fair amount of the time, the service that needs to be done is not on the customer's side -thus needing tech support to fix server-side issues.

Let's say my upload speeds are a little "slow" *wink, wink*, are you able to remedy the problem?

FIX THIS, HOTSHOT! Quote from another thread of mine:

"My personal situation is as such - ping response time is fast, download speeds good, but starting a sustained upload of pretty much any speed seems to totally 'disconnect' the modem, with the only way to regain Internet connectivity being to unplug the modem from the wall jack and plug it back in a minute or two later.

I've uninstalled/reinstalled the TCP/IP protocols on two different machines using the modem, switched through three good NICs, reformatted under Win2K and Win95 and had the line analyzed by an @Home technician for just under two hours onsite now...he and I both concluded that this is a result of a problem beyond my own system."

Further in-depth details available. Every time I call @Home about it they send me a new cable modem. I DON'T NEED A NEW CABLE MODEM!

It's frustrating. Got any ideas?

RedRooster,
Sorry, upload speeds are controlled by your local M.S.O. There are registry hacks out there that supposedly increase your speeds, but I don't know where they are or what they do.

0sully,
Does tech support actually tell you the reason that your cable modem needs to be replaced? Either way, a truck roll to replace the modem for that issue won't cost you. Why don't you just let them replace the modem? And, when the issue doesn't get resolved, then they'll have no choice but to look elsewhere for a fix. :)

Well... can you fix this? Have some sort of etiquette class for those contractors that @home uses! :) They really piss me off sometimes. Some of them are just plain jerks. But all in all I'm damn happy with my service. ULs are slow but that can be expected as they don't want us to run a server of any sort. Too bad though. DLs are in the 3500kbps range. Can't beat that.

One thing I am curious though.... sometimes (actually alot of times) people are trying to DL from my using WinMX, and their connections always drop. I have no problem with others DLing my stuff. But ppl have messaged me asking why I'm being an ass. I'm not dropping their connections, my firewall as far as I know isn't dropping those connections, and the modem is brand spanking new. The modem works fine when others are DLing from me to their homes through FTP. Just wondering if it's on @home's end. If not, then it's either the software or the ppl are stupid. :D

Whoops, thought it was included in my quote there. I've been through four modems and three technicians on site. They think it's the power supply fritzing out but the line techs find nothing wrong with any of that here.

If you want to help, help people get credit for the crappy service.

If they actually kept up the wan, things would be great, but obviously they cannot do that.

Pr0hawk,
Have you called in? slow speeds = NetDiag Pperformance Test results. :)

jlee75,
That sounds like it's an issue between your software and the WinMX people's software, since you actually have people who can get through no problem (most of them?). Even if it's not, @Home won't do anything about it because we don't work with servers ;)

0sully,
Truthfully, it sounds like an RF issue. If the only way you can get your connection back (after four modems! :Q), it sounds like RF. But, since you had technicians out checking the lines, they should have been able to detect the RF. Is your signal strength too strong/weak? What did the line techs tell you?

SammySon,
Sorry, I don't handle accounting/billing. I work with the technical side. :)

FFMCobalt, I can't connect to the mail server (OE 'cannot find') since I reinstalled Win98 and started running my line through a router. I've tried it with the line going straight from the NIC to the modem, though. Any ports/etc. being blocked isn't possible... Do you think I might need to change my computer name or some other such thing? The router is setup the same way as my old machine's network settings were...

I'll be taking a little bit longer to get back to everyone since my shift just started and I'm going to be taking calls as well. I'm working as fast as I can...

Yeah, how come at night all my pings go up to sky-high levels, and so do everyone else's in the area? Is it because the headend is 50km away? ;)

Apparently my signal levels are borderline. I have access to the technician's hotline and checked my levels myself both at the computer and at the place the cable line comes into my house - 49.0 both times, where the maximum should be 55. It was a MIB test (here come the Men in Black...).

The advice I've been given is to force the next line tech who comes out to run a temp line from the box on the lawn to the house and see if that resolves the issue. That should be fun. :p

I've always wanted to yell at install techs and line techs too :D

If it gets down to a truck roll, it's already out of my hands. Sorry....

Okay, I believe all PM's are replied to. If I missed you, PM me again or post here... or lower my user rating or something :D

FFM, my local cable provider's service sucks. Any chance we can flush them and reload?

0sully You wouldn't happen to have an amp installed somewhere in your house, would you?
