Current:
ECS K7S5A M/Board
1.4GHz Athlon
256MB RAM
Radeon 9600 Pro AGP
Ideally I want to keep the gfx card, thus cutting down on cost significantly (after all, this isn't exactly a tired out of date card - it's still got a good bit of bang to it). Also want to keep case/PSU, again for cost reduction (or atleast, to spare money for RAM)
Very much Fancy AMD64, and want to go the 939 route to allow small upgrades next year.
Are there any or are there like to be any by summer, 939 boards that can take an AGP but will provide PCIe for future-proofing - i.e. a nice transitional Mboard?
Slightly worried about p/supply now though. Have (I think) 300W (350 tops). What's the minimum for a 939 system?
Am now hugely confused regarding RAM - in particular, matching RAM to proc: Say I get a 3200+ (is that the 939 one? well, you know the one I mean, the cheapest 939) and RAM to suit (which would be what?) . Would the RAM have to change for faster proc? How picky do you have to be with RAM these days - the prices vary so much, and I need to keep the price down. (to which you will probably say, why not go with 745 - well, because I like to keep my M/board changes to a minimum, and I firmly believe a 939 is worth the investment, moreso than the 745, as it's got a better chance of lasting as long as my current system has. Don't offer useless statements like this, just answer the questions
Finally, my current system is the most stable I've ever had - something I'm quite proud of. Who's likely to build the parts that'll give suitably stable performance? So long since my last system build I'm out of the loop.
