brightness problem with monitor

hey i just got this flat panel lcd monitor for free because my dad picked it up from his work. they didnt want it anymore because they claimed it was too dark. i hooked it up and it really is dark. it actually hurts to look at it.

i tried adjusting the brightness and contrast on the monitor along with the settings in my ati catalyst control center like the gamma and stuff. its still really dark and i cant get it to look any better. is there a way i can fix this or is the monitor probably a defect?

Probably the backlight is defective. You could try opening it up and see if anything is glaringly wrong (loose wires, etc.) You may also be able to get a replacement backlight if that is the problem.

hmm a backlight problem? would i be able to call the company up and see if they could send me a new one? or would they not do that

I would assume it's not under warranty anymore if they were just throwing it away... but it never hurts to ask.
