Brightness not uniform on my monitor, should I be worried?

My 19" Envision monitor has been rock solid for me since I bought it, I couldn't be happier with it. However, today I noticed that the left side of my monitor looked strange, one of my shortcut icons looked dim. It's three squares, Red, Yellow, and Blue, and they were quite dim. The other icons in that area were the same way. I moved them to the center, and they looked fine. I degaussed my monitor, and everything came back to normal.

Should I be worried? Is this the harbringer of my monitor's eventual failure?

This is not necessarily a sign of a problem. Magnetic influence on the monitor even the earth?s own magnetic fields can do this to the monitor. This is why monitors have a degauss function. If it continues I suggest you move the monitor to another location, away from any potential sources of magnetic fields.

Well that's good to know. I'm not sure what near my monitor would be causing a magnetic field, the power lines are on the opposite side of the street, and the only thing sitting next to my monitor is my printer and the throttle unit for my joystick.

I have seen power lines influence monitors from as far as 3 hundred yards, depending on the current flow through the wires.
