bridged dsl modem

If you are bridging in order to run software to connect you via ppoe the only downside I can think of is you wouldnt have the benefits of NAT that most DSL modems I've come across offer. Even if they are only a single port modem, most include a basic router in them.

As long as you have a router/firewall behind the modem, there shouldn't be any problem putting the modem in bridge mode.

Actually using a modem in Bridged mode with a good stand alone Router is the preferred solution. The Router part of the Modem/Router combos is usually a "Bad" or "Mediocre" device at best.

Using a Modem in Bridge mode conneceted directly to one computer usually an indication of ignorance.

The Internet Bandwidth is slightly slow and quirky due to the PPPOE software. It also present greater danger from the Internet.
