Bill O'Reilly repeatedly told first-hand combat stories that never happened. I wonder when he'll be suspended... Just kidding, we already know that the right wing expects their media sources to lie so he won't be punished in the least and the right wing won't say one bad thing about him.
Right and left have nothing to do it with it, he's on an opinion show, simple as that. MSNBC gets away with the same kind of shenanigans all the time, so quit selectively bitching and just call out the media in general.

Equating a news anchor of a major media outlet with a highly partisan political pundit appears to be ridiculous on the surface...but the more I think about it, the more I think you're right in doing so.

I think he was mentioning it because of O'Reilly's strong condemnation of Williams.

That's bullshit...O'Reilly never strongly condemned him. If anything, he actually almost defended what Williams did.

“I know Williams for a long time, I’m not friends with him, I don’t particularly like his style, it’s not my style, but … he’s never done anything that I’ve seen underhanded — personally,” O’Reilly began Thursday.

“He knows what he did was wrong, a lot of people exaggerate their life experience, and he did and he got caught,” O’Reilly concluded, suggesting Williams won’t be reprimanded because Americans are “so used to being lied to.”

Oh?

All Americans who love their country should think about what has happened to Brian Williams, should think about other news agencies that are distorting the facts. We should all open that proverbial network window and yell out we're mad as hell and we're not going to take it anymore.

I stand corrected...but it seems to me that he was actually lashing out at media bias in general and that Williams was used as his pawn to do so.

You were correct with your original assertion. O'Reilly hasn't been harsh towards BW in the slightest. It's generally acknowledged that he's been soft on him.

And yes, that quote has to do with the media in general (news, not Op/Ed) and their falling polling numbers.

The above poster is correct that O'Reilly is an Op/Ed show, not news etc. so not really relevant.

IMO, doesn't much matter though. If his ratings fall too far, he'll be gone.

It's all about the ratings and $'s.

eskimospy is always right...surely you know this. Not worth the effort to argue minutia imo.

Nah, not right at all. If you think that O'Reilly saying that Williams is emblematic of a media that lies so much that people should be screaming that they won't accept it any more is being 'soft', that's a pretty odd definition of soft. Not harsh in the slightest? Puhleese. (Not to mention it is a ridiculous comment from him anyway)

Additionally, O'Reilly's shtick is that he's giving his audience the truth. Hell, he even says that in the piece I quoted. Looks fairly likely that he's just been hoist on his own petard. Although I will admit that finding ways where old Bill is a hypocritical douche isn't the most challenging thing there is.

No big deal with O'Reilly. We all know he's a mental case with a show from the funny farm network.
Brian Williams, I doubt he will be back.
Then again, who cares.
In my opinion, when the messenger becomes the news, the messenger must go.
Then again (back to then again), NBC nightly news is pretty much just another video tabloid rag mag.
What would John Chancellor do?

At fox all they need to do is yell down the hall.
