OMFG, what happened to him? He's big enough to be a Defensive end.

He grew after college? I can't imagine that he played Safety at his current size??

Someone probably decided that he should play linebacker instead and had him bulk up.

he's 258, about average for a middle linebacker. most safeties are in the 220 range. so he must have put on 20 to 30 lbs. ya, i realize that isn't that much for a football player to put on.

it's still pretty amazing. i'm sure it doesn't happen that much.

I think he was a extremly large Safety in college, I believe he played at 230 or something. Another 20 pounds would not be to hard to put on.

Did you see the artical on David Boston in ESPN the Magzine?? That guy is a freak!! He left Ohio State weighing 210 pounds, He now weighs 260 and he runs the 40 even faster then he did before!!!

Safety and linebacker aren't really all that different.... A lot of teams play with a rover, which is basically a hybrid between linebacker and safety and plays between the linebackers and secondary. Usually the leading tackler on teams that use one.

one could also say CB / Safety not that different. but its not true, they are different.

actualy you see more conversions between safety and CB than you do between safety and Linebacker.

People grow at different rates. It's not unusual for guys to grow a few inches and add 20+ pounds while in college, especially if hitting the weight room hard. I played linebacker on my high school team at 6'2" 220, but could not bulk up enough to do it in college, so I lost 10 pounds, gained a step of speed and played safety for my college team. Other guys were playing linebacker in college after having played safety in high school or defensive end after having been a linebacker as they gained enough size to make the jump. Hell, I came in as a linebacker and beat out a true safety for the job, but by junior year that guy was on the offensive line, he gained 4 inches and 50 pounds with a huge growth spurt.

more impressively, he also returned punts!!!! he was a great, great college player. you should follow some college ball, too. you'll see lots of "unknown" guys who are destined for greatness, like the current safety at UNLV. unbelievable player.

I love college Football, I think it's a lot more exciting then Professional.

I'm a bias Iowa Fan, but Tim Dwight who plays for the San Diego Chargers now was one of the best all around college players I've ever seen. He returned punts, kick-offs, was on the kick team, played a little defense, was the starting receiver. Extremely fast. I don't think he ever fair-caught a punt in his four years at Iowa. He's a ok Pro player, but in college he ruled.

He really is not that big...he weighs in @ 245-250 which would be under what the average defensive end in the NFL weighs.

i thought he was listed at 258, which would put him closer to 260 than 245.

it's his speed. safety speed at 258 is pretty good.
