nose - I try to all the time even when doing physical activities that make me feel like breathing through my mouth.
I hate breathing through my mouth as it gives me cottonmouth and dries my lips out.

One of my friends breathes through his mouth. It's annoying as fvck when he's eating because he has to chew with his mouth open. Just thinking about the smacking of his lips makes me want to go and stab the motherfvcker but he's a few hours away right now.

I breathe through my nose when I'm not doing any physical activity. When I'm up and about I usually breathe through both.

Nose. Even though it's constricted much of the time, even after surgery to fix some of the plumbing in my sinus areas. I still feel that I have to remove flaps of... I don't even know what it is---it's half snot, and maybe a part cartilage too. I used to be able to stick my finger all the way up into the nasal atrium, but I can't anymore, and that still doesn't feel right to me, even years after the surgery.

Yes, I know I'm disgusting. :p

I hate when I have to think about breathing :(

Atleast I don't to go "beat heart" "beat heart", "breathe", "Beat heart", "beart heart", "breathe",.... That would drive me mad

Mouth usually. My nasal passages are literally too small to be capable of providing enough air unless I'm sleeping.

To the people talking about still using nose when running, thats not what you want to do, you want to breathe in through one and out the other, that way you minimize the amount of CO2 you are breathing back in.

Well, in certain sexual encounters, the nose might be the only orfice to let air in. :)

Absolutely prefer nose but I have a deviated septum so my nose is often plugged which forces me to breath through my mouth especially at night when trying to sleep. I use a single squirt of nasal spray in one nostril that is plugged at night 90% of the time and it clears it up for the night allowing me to sleep much better.

To the guy who covers his girlfriends mouth yeah she likely cannot breath. If I was ever abducted and someone put duct tape over my mouth I would suffocate.

Those without problems breathing throught their noses to me are so lucky. I have had this problem since I was a child.

nose, even when doing moderate exercise i mostly breathe through the nose. vigorous exercise will be with the mouth, since i swim i have no choice but to breath with my mouth because my face is only above the surface for very short periods of time. usually breath out through a combo of nose a mouth.

for getting my breath back its in thru nose, out thru mouth

my GF's had that many colds/blocked noses in her life that she always now breathes out her mouth....and she makes funny noises when she sleeps which i keep teasing her about.

Closed one nostril and still could breath easily. Althought, then it was audible.

Huh, nose... breathing through mouth feels weird... the air is much fresher when breathing through the nose, it seems like it goes deeper into the lungs or something

Of course, as everyone when I get tired I have to breathe through mouth until I lower my heartbeat again

pretty obvious that most people, like me breathe through nose, and when they need more oxygen, like running, will breathe through mouth

Mouth, my nose was horribly broken in elementary school and although it was reconstructed I have very narrow nasal passages, making it difficult to breathe through my nose at all.

Nose. Is it true that breathing through the nose is better because the mucus filters the air? Heard this somewhere a long time ago.

That and during winter months when the air is freezing breathing through your nose helps warm the air up a little more before hitting your lungs.

As long as you your tidal volumes (normal is around 500ml) are greater than you anotomic deadspace ventilation (normal is 150ml) you don't rebreath your own exhaled CO2. Maybe you meant CO2 retention but only those with an obstructive breathing disease would have to worry about that, like people with asthma or COPD. During strenuous excercise the body produces more CO2 than normal. To offset this affect, the respiratory center of the brain sees this increased CO2 and tells the body to breath more rapidly and more deeply, which blows off the excess CO2 normalizing our acid-base balance.
