Breastfeeding Controversy in Stigler
The News On 6

A Haskell County woman faces criminal charges for alledgedly breastfeeding another woman's baby without the parents' consent.

The Stigler day care owner is charged with outraging public decency and public morals. Her day care facility has been shut down as a result.

Investigators say Shannon Denney, who's also an attorney, was trying to comfort the 3 month old by nursing the infant.

When the mother found out, she told the police. They say Denny admitted it.

Some in Stigler don't think going to court is necessary, but the new owner of the day care disagrees.

Michelle Moore, Daycare Worker: "Just personally, I think it's just a special bond between a mother and a child - her own child."

Louise Boyles, Stigler Resident: "Well, I think they've hurt her enough, because she's closed her daycare down and I just think she was trying to help the baby."

Shannon Denney will appear in court next week. She could face up to a year in jail. DHS says there is no policy addressing breast-feeding someone else's child.

I'm just curious about the logistics of this situation. How did she breastfeed someone else's kid? Was she nursing her own infant during the same period of time?

And more importantly, how did the parents find out?

I see no problem with a woman breastfeeding another woman's child, so long as she has consent...
Which she did not in this case......

Even with consent I find that a bit creepy...

I know... I did read the article.

But what's so wrong about breastfeeding another woman's child? Animals do it all the time. People should not make a natural body function out to be something sexual or perverted.

You should know a place like this would be all over any article involving breastesses and to do a simple search.

If I were the parent of the child, I would be a bit upset myself. There are many, many things that a lactating woman can consume that is carried through into the breat milk, that's issue #1 in my opinion. First things first, that woman would be tested for drug use and any other potentially harmful diseases. Issue #2 is why she simply did not locate and make use of formula.

It _is_ inappropriate and slightly creepy but she doesn't deserve to lose her business and face criminal charges because of it. Trust me, if an infant has been screaming at you long enough, you'll try about anything to calm it down.

Nothing creepy about it, that's what wetnurses are for. I do agree that it was wrong because something like that should definately be with a parent's consent.

😀

Who cares. It's milk. Baby ammals drink it. People have no problem feeding the kid milk from a completely different species (cow), so why does a different human matter at all? People have some weird hang-ups on regualr bodily functions.
