"Fear is the mind killer".

Yeah, stress indeed has a physiological impact on body and mind.

Money is a significant stresser.

What triggers your stress response?

For me, it's people challenging me without engagement. Call me out publicly, prepare to fight.

You?

Well, that helps explain how lotto jackpots seem to be reaching 1/4 billion dollars fairly often. "I'm poor. I can't pay my bills. Hey, I'll play the lottery, maybe that will fix everything."

Thas't not news. Lotteries have always been a scam to get the poor to pay for things with a regressive but voluntary tax.

They start with the company who makes millions printing the tickets. That company hires a lobbyist, who polls the state for what the most popular 'good cause' is, like schools.

They they push the lottery to pay half to that good cause, and politicians say 'sure'.

Then it's passed by the legislature or by the voters to pay for that 'good cause'.

Known many rich folks over the years (mostly work and personal life etc).

Most (not all) seem to be completely miserable souls.....

They're still much better off than the poor.

Research shows money brings more happiness up to about $50K/year, then flattens.

And politicians then cut/redirect all other gov funding except lotto funds and when sales tank every one cries.

Are they rich in terms of net wealth or in terms of income and owning stuff? Lots of 'rich' people have stressful money problems because they don't control their spending

That is a very important distinction.
