That is like a hour to a hour and a half from here depending on how fast you drive. Sad. :(

Looks like it was a disgruntled employee. This guy just snapped! Definately a bad deal.

Now they're saything the they had previous reports that this guy was unstable to begin with. What the hell is he doing working for Lockheed Martin then? Just what we need, some crackpot building F-16's. Who screens their applicants? Sounds lto me like the numbskulls in managment who received these reports from their employees, and yet did nothing, needed to be shot too!

Guns + Lockheed Martin. Michael Moore will open his fat mouth about this one for sure.

I worked for Lockheed Martin in Huntsville for fifteen years. Meridian MS. only about 3-4 hours from here. I wouldn't want to imagine that happening here. Bad news indeed.

Before blaming management, maybe it would be a good idea to see if this was a union shop or not.

Here's a message from V. Coffman, Chairman & CEO. I just received it in my inbox here at work.

As you may have heard, we had a shooting this morning at our Meridian, Miss., facility which resulted in fatalities. We are still attempting to understand exactly what occurred and are obviously cooperating fully with law enforcement officials. We are all deeply shocked and saddened by this tragedy. We will provide additional details as they become available.

/s/ Vance

I used to work for Lockheed Martin. We had a lot of fscktards working for us.

MERIDIAN, Miss., July 8 ? An employee brandishing at least two weapons opened fire at the Lockheed Martin plant here Tuesday, killing at least six people, including himself, authorities said.

A DISPATCHER for the Lauderdale County Sheriff?s Department told The Associated Press that several other people were injured. Local blood banks issued an emergency call for blood.
Officials at the plant would not comment.
Eddie Smith, a reporter for WMOX radio in Meridian, told MSNBC TV the gunman, who was dressed in camouflage, shot 14 people all told, killing five of them, before turning one of his guns on himself. Smith quoted sheriff?s officials as saying the shooting resulted from a domestic dispute.
Lockheed Martin is the largest defense contractor in the United States. The corporation, with headquarters in Bethesda, Md., had sales of $24 billion in 2001. It employs about 125,000 people. The Meridian plant produces structural assemblies for the C-130J Hercules tactical transport airlift and the F-22 Raptor stealth fighter.

I doubt there is a union clause protecting someone who is off his rocker, especially when working for a military contractor. I don't know for sure, but that seems like a long shot to me.

you haven't spent enough time with unions. Once you are in, it will take a heck of a lot to get you out.

BTW, Meridian is a union plant.

To be perfectly honest, I've never spent any time with unions. I just don't know how one can ignore reports from other "union" employees telling you "Hey, this guy is loopy, he could be a possible threat to others!" and do nothing.

I don't try to understand the thought process of unions, and neither should you. ;)

Unions are still involved with organized crime too, but I doubt that was a factor here.

im sure everyone works with 'weird ' people...
i know every job i have had there has been a few people we have talked about that were suspect...
like if someone were to snap it be him...but they are never so overbaord you can report them

then again i work with engineers and 90 percent of them have their 'quirks'
